Pediatric Chiropractic in Lakewood
Every child deserves to enjoy abundant health. With chiropractic care, we seek to promote a child’s ability to maintain a high level of well-being and have an active, robust childhood – just the way it should be. At Empower Health Chiropractic, Dr. Nicholas loves seeing the children in our community be healthy and avoiding common childhood ailments.
Responding Quickly to Care
Since a child’s body hasn’t yet matured, quick changes are generally made when a child gets adjusted. Their problems also haven’t been present for too long, which means rapid results.
An important part of your child’s care is to monitor their posture and overall health from a young age. As they get older, we can make sure they progress as they should and don’t experience any new forms of injury or health challenges.
NEW PATIENTS
Going to the doctor is typically not a child’s idea of a great time. We want them to know, though, that going to the chiropractor is different. They can be themselves, play and have a great time here. Dr. Nicholas will get on their level, clearly explaining what’s going to happen and showing them with plenty of visuals along the way. They’ll feel informed and that they’re a part of what is occurring rather than having something “done” to them.
Why would someone take their newborn or young child to the chiropractor's office?
The stresses of life start as early as the birthing process. There is a great deal of trauma a baby has to go through to begin life. There may be far-reaching consequences if there is a subluxation, or spinal misalignment, in the child’s body that goes unaddressed. A chiropractor can evaluate the level of trauma that has occurred and correct any subluxations present.
Yes. It’s important to note that chiropractic doesn’t treat a condition such as colic. Instead, Dr. Nicholas seeks to optimize your child’s nervous system function. Your child’s nervous system can’t function as it should when under stress. By gently adjusting the infant, the stress is removed from the nervous system, which may result in an improvement in the symptoms of colic.
No. There are separate techniques for children or adaptations made to the techniques used so that they are soft, gentle and comfortable for the baby or child. For young kids, a fingertip pressure is all that’s needed to make changes in the body.
Yes. Part of what we do is the monitoring and correction of scoliosis-type problems. Over time, we can keep track of their spinal curves to ensure that they’re healthy. If your child is over 18 and requires posture rehabilitation, we can get them on a posture program that involves weighted stress rehabilitation. If your child needs spinal bracing, we will refer them to another health professional.
A little. We adapt what we’re doing to the age of your child. If they’re old enough to understand what’s going on, Dr. Nicholas will speak directly to them in terms they can understand. They’ll feel involved in the profess and informed so that they have a high level of confidence in receiving care.
Yes. Your child’s consultation can be done over the phone between you and Dr. Nicholas. Then, when your child comes in for the first time, we can proceed with the examination process right away.
There is no age minimum or maximum when it comes to chiropractic. You can bring your child in as a newborn, whenever you feel ready to leave the house. Rest assured that a soft touch will be used to check your child for subluxations. No adjustment will be made if nothing is out of place.
